I think he thought there was a chance that he wouldn't get there first. At 6'7" he would've wiped everything out. All good if he gets the ball but a 100% penalty if he doesn't. There was a chance that their player could've flicked it over the bar. He would've been slated even more if that happened and he'd given away a penalty.
