Physicality; his job is to win aerial balls, either by bringing the ball down or by flicking headers on, which in turn feeds the wide players in Barry and Collar/Tanto/Diamond. Yes, he also needs to score goals but that isn't the yard stick for his role. He's been involved several times this season in creating goals, either directly assisting or being involved in the move initially, playing this role.

There's not a player in League One who is asked to play that role and wins even the majority of the aerial balls played into them; it's a constant physical battle with centre backs.

As I said further down, if you don't like that system then fine, but Wootton isn't doing it particularly badly.
