Terrific programme Early Doors. A mate of mine Phil Mealey co-wrote it and played Duffy. I spoke to him fairly recently and he said it had been a big hit but only in Northern parts of the country. Down South apparently it had gone down like a lead balloon

I recall a police raid on Fairey's Social Club in the early hours of the morning in the late seventies. One of the coppers went into the snooker room and tapped Norman Mason on the shoulder as he was taking his shot. Without turning round Norman said "It's ok Frank, I've still got a couple behind the curtain"
