White Recording Tape Boxes

There are a couple postings on YouTube of Jim Ed Brown singing tributes to Jim Reeves, at the Country Family Reunion.

I recently listened to the longer version which is 12:56 vs the shorter one of 10:15. In it there are a couple interesting points, about the little white recording boxes that were Mary Reeves "insurance policies" containing unreleased songs.

At 10:30 and 12:10 Jim Ed Brown talks about the release of "Distant Drums", and the fact that he was in possession of a couple of the "little white boxes". He states the recordings were not of the highest standard and might not be worthy of releasing.

Does anyone know if these recordings have ever seen the light of day?

Lastly at 12:42, an artist, T. Graham Brown, comments that his experience was that Jim was still very popular in Europe and still on the charts to this day.

Still trying to get Jim recognised in mainstream media and the Presidential musical obsession with QUALITY sound.

The Jim Ed Brown tribute to Jim Reeves is very interesting, and a priceless retro connection to a time when music actually was enjoyable to listen to. Most of these videos that I have watched are hosted by Bill Anderson, who by the way, never seems to age. Still sharp looking and a dialogue to match. Bill, the perfect host, could not have been a better choice for this program.

From watching so many of these 'gatherings' which of course include a live audience of current and past performers, I do seem to look at it with a bit of trepidation. I constantly find myself counting the number of artists that are no longer with us, and that is a bit of a sad commentary. On the other hand however, we have been so blessed to have lived in a time these programs showcased the best of the best, something I personally will cherish forever.

They say timing is everything in life. Well, we were here at the right time and the right place to witness once in a life time 'Great Music' at its pinnacle !!

VERY well put Roy. Always been curious about Bill's "hair", and where he got it.

In listening to Jim's songs lately his voice seems better than ever. When we get old our hearing changes, somehow his vibrato is more noticeable to me now.

It seems to me that Jim's music is having a renaissance of sorts. Not in mainstream media, or in Presidential recognition, but in YouTube postings.

It appears that a lot of Jim Reeves videos are showing up on YouTube. More volume but also more craziness.

I hope sensible interest spreads to a virial level here, as it seems in other parts of the world.

I trust there are more than Roy and me, who recognise the TREASURE in Jim's voice.

VERY calming in these troubled times.

Don't know what else to say, Roy. You said it all. Bill Anderson is a timeless and seemingly ageless performer of the highest quality, and a great songwriter as well. Looks as though he will be around forever. We can only hope. And yes, he was the perfect host for these "country reunion" videos. These videos were taped quite a few years ago and many of these classic country artists are gone now, but we wete certainly blessed to have been around in an age when music was this good...

I agree, Bob. But maybe Jim sounds better than ever to you because today's music is so awful. At least, that's the way I feel. Whenever I hear a song by any of today's recording artists, I appreciate Jim and the classic artists of yester-year more and more!...

The "Country Family Reunion" Videos began in 1996.

I know some are available for purchase in DVD form, I think from the original producers, and elsewhere. Have to double check.

I have purchased a few, found here and there, especially the ones referring to Jim's life and legacy.

I haven't watched them all and if I remember correctly, they were kind of expensive.

I do think they are worth it, as Mike so beautifully states how historically valuable they are.

They are simply enjoyable to watch, especially the actions and sounds of artists long gone.

The Country Family Reunion episode with Jim Ed Brown's tribute to Jim Reeves is a favorite.

I would like to recommend the episode featuring Lee Greenwood's life story and the creation of his classic "God Bless The USA".

It is very interesting and emotional.

Worth a watch.

I wish Voice Masters could get the tapes and make a new CD I am sure Jim Ed Brown's wife Becky knows where they are!
