I know I'm a few weeks late, but I wanted to acknowledge Jim's 100th birthday on August 20th. Jim gave us something in his lifetime that continues to bring his fans happiness long after his death. With the crazy things going on in this world today, we need Jim's music more than ever. There have been so many changes in the music world thru the years, and not for the better in my opinion. But Jim's music will never die. That's something they can't take away from us. If you're looking at this forum, then you're more than likely a huge Jim Reeves fan, like I am. Jim's recordings have stood the test of time and will continue to be loved by his many fans throughout the world. I think that would make him very happy...
My message is a bit late as well. There are a couple of radio programs I want to mention especially for Jim's centenary.
Here in Atlantic Canada (Halifax) we are blessed with a volunteer radio station called Seaside FM 105.9. Most if not all are seniors that present real music from back in the day. Host Paul Kennedy in late August dedicated an hour of his four hour show to Jim's centenary. Very well done and had a story of interest after many songs. Of course Paul like most of us here on the Forum grew up in a time where real music and singers understood what quality and talent were all about, and for songs that would last a lifetime.
Radio Fremantle 107.9 (Western Australia) is another station that always promotes Jim's music and legacy. Presenter Geoff Simons dedicated the entire two hour show to Jim's 100th. The show is called Creative Country (every Thursday). I have been listening to this station for many years. I get it 'on line' every week. For those interested you can access the archives link (shows) and listen to any show this past year. Check it out to learn more about Jim's legacy. Geoff included five song requests of mine for this show that I appreciated very much.
Thank you Mike for the heart felt words you shared with us on your post. We could not agree more, and I know I speak for everyone here on the Forum. The picture of Jim you included in almost silhouette is most impressive and appropriate. Thank you for posting !!
Thank you for this Roy. I have just listened to Geoff Simons on Radio Freemantle and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I don't think he'll mind me saying that he's not exactly a slick presenter, but he chose a really interesting mix of live and studio recordings. I've recorded it and will enjoy adding it to my JR collection.
Sadly I haven't been able to trace much from the UK on Jim's centenary.
Good to hear Martin .. Success in finding the link and enjoying the program.
Geoff and also Ian Mills have been hosting Creative Country since 1987. Again the program broadcasts from Fremantle near Perth, Western Australia. As of yesterday Sept 7th, that represents 1,873 programs they have hosted. All Classic Country music and that's why I am a fan.
I know I sound like a broken record because I have mentioned this station before here on the Forum. Anyway, I just want to also say that on every weekly program they feature a segment called "Rare Reeves" where they will showcase one of Jim's songs always backed up by a story.
Cheers for now Martin, and thanks for your reply !
