If some of this info is in Larry's book I either missed, or long since, forgot it. The book is massive with much info.
The reason I thought the studio photos were possibly done in Europe for the Bear Company was due to the apparel worn, and the fact that Jim appeared VERY pale, possibly ill.
The photo here was on the Bear 16 CD Box Set CD disks 1-4, which shows a possible knot on Jim's forehead. The photo on the 5-8 CD box is similar with a little less visible knot.
I have formed the opinion that the resulting "bump" is a result of the "hug" with the red haired model's face contacting Jim's with some pressure..
The photos on CD cases 9-12, and 13-16, are taken from a frontal view in which Jim's face and forehead are relatively shiny and smooth, lending support to my conclusion.
None the less, ALL the photos are poor choices in my view. Jim's attire is odd to say the least, and he looks ill, being very pale like he had just gotten off a long flight.
The Bear Labels on each disk are also aesthetically crude and harsh in my estimation.
Even so, the Box Set is fabulous, now out of production bringing prices from $160.00 to $400.00 depending upon condition according AI. I think I paid around $300.00 new when released.
The Bear Set came out during the time period when 45"s and LP's were fading out and CD's were coming to the fore. Jim was not on the radio much at this time either. I went a long time without listening to Jim so I splurged on the Bear set which was much more money than I should reasonably spend, but I had to have it.
The location where the studio photos were taken is just conjecture with no supporting evidence.
Roy, any insight?
