Re: Sometimes you don't realize...
My younger daughter was upset when she saw that FB picture. It was taken just before he went into the hospital and he had lost a lot of weight. The radiation treatment apparently had created scar tissue in his esophagus and he wasn't able to swallow properly and didn't want to eat. All sorts of tests were taken that were inclusive and it was my own online research that I presented to the oncologist that provided an answer. It and the side effects from it, were ultimately the cause of his death..not the cancer itself. She had a very close relationship with him and became his advocate and often his nurse while he was in the nursing home that is literally just down the street from my house. I met him when I was 16, married him at 18 and we were together just shy of 50 years. Kids tend to resent another person coming into their parent's sphere and if there is an "ex" in the picture putting ideas into their heads, it's just that much worse. I have been with my sweetie fifteen years. I could not have asked for a more thoughtful or caring person but it took a long time for my girls to accept him. It's a shame that Bob's kids missed out on what could have been a wonderful relationship with their dad.
