My birth mother is buried in St. John's. She was buried in a plot where other relatives were buried decades before. Her death was unanticipated and they didn't have a plot. After a certain amount of years and I do not recall how many, a body can be interned even in a plot that is already full...at least that used to be the case if not now. There was no room on the gravestone to add her name so its basically unmarked except for those buried before her. Sad. My dad and stepmother are buried in St Charles which is only a few miles from my home. When I went to look for a plot anticipating he would be passing, I looked there. While it is well kept, it is very sterile and I didn't like it for that reason. There is a small cemetery closer to me that I did like, a place where families could visit. Decorations are allowed and it seemed almost festive (not something everyone likes) but it seemed a place more welcoming to visit. Frank passed sooner than I anticipated and I hadn't committed yet. |
