Re: Crown at State Opening of Parliament
Previous Message The UK State Opening of Parliament is on November 7. I can't find any information on whether or not the new King intends to wear the Imperial State Crown, as his mother did, for nearly all the Openings of her reign. And Queen Camilla? Will she wear her crown as well? I've had no luck in finding any information or image of the last time there was a King; at State Openings of Parliament did George VI wear the Imperial State Crown, and his consort Queen Elizabeth wear her crown? And might the State Diadem tiara make an appearance? Queen Elizabeth II would usually wear the State Diadem Tiara on the way to Parliament, before changing into the Imperial State Crown. Might Queen Camilla wear the Diadem in the same way? Or, even wear the Diadem for the complete ceremony with no crown at all? We won't know either a few days before the occasion or on the actual day. Personally I think the King will wear the Imperial State Crown. The Queen may wear hers as well, but I think the State Diadem will make an appearance. King George VI and Queen Elizabeth did wear their crowns at the State Opening of Parliament in 1937. Also full robes. Information can be found in this PDF link to the Winnipeg Evening Tribune, 26 Oct 1937. https://digitalcollections.lib.umanitoba.ca/islandora/object/uofm%3A1827600
