I am in a rather toxic district as far as parent involvement is concerned. These parents email over every single little thing, blow off meetings and then get mad when their kids' instrument isn't here since they didn't order one, there is a host of issues with parents being crazily entitled. Today, a parent is demanding that I stay after school to tutor her child *for free* because her kid failed to practice and failed the recent playing test. I get here at 7 am and travel an hour back and forth for work. I am not staying after school, I am exhausted at the end of the day. This is a district wide issue, and this is my seventh year of teaching and I have never dealt with parents who are so entitled before, and it is stressing me out to the point that it is affecting my health. How do I deal with this? Every single week there is some different parent complaint over something I already said, or playing tests.
