Below is a pic of a containerized VOODOO LILY or Devil's Tongue, Amorphophallus konjac, I have had for a couple years, and store it over the winter. When the tuber gets softball sized, the bulbs will flower, WITH NO LEAVES OR SOIL..in the house, while too cold to set out, in late winter! If anyone has ever smelled this plant's flower, they'd know it smells like a dead rat. After blooming the plant sprouts a stalk with foliage. These plant stalks, when blooming age, can be a good 5 ft tall. So far, my leaf stalk is only about 3 ft tall, so it may not bloom for another year, or two. Still, though, the leaf stalk still sports its characteristic, snake-skin-like mottling. I have an in ground specimen, that returns, so they are very hardy. Yet, when grown in the ground, these plants dont seem to develop as fast, as those grown in large pots, or grown in the ground, dug and stored, over the winter...

Can anybody guess what this plant is? His name is 'Jack's Giant'. I got it from Logee's, in a 4-inch pot, either last year, or the year before. It seems to be getting a little bigger, each year..

The TEXAS FIREBUSH, Hamelia patens, is beginning to chime in, with blooms. This is another shrub, that gets an annual spring haircut. It is hardy enough to be grown, as a dieback, in z8, and up...

Here's a pic of a JAPANESE BLUEBERRY TREE, Eleocarpus decipiens, I got as a small start, and have been growing in a 2 -gallon pot. It has now gotten large enough to go into the ground, I think. I hope to plant it, next year. This is not the plant that produces the blueberries we like in muffins and pancakes, but another broad-leaved evergreen (BLE), for those who like plants that retain foliage, all year long. It does produce a "blue" berry that resembles the known fruit...

Here is 'Fluffy Ruffles', in its summer glory. It is a form of Boston fern, that has a different leaf form. It goes semi-dormant, over the winter, and sheds some of its leaves. Its getting pretty big. I think it'll need a 3 or 5 gallon pot, next year...
