There is an interesting tension between the desire to preserve the first Duke's heritage in the Wellesley family with the desire to bequeath a fabulous title (and grandeeship) to one's children. It would be quite natural for the Duchess's children to feel less strongly about preserving the Duke's heritage in the Wellesley family than the Duchess might have felt. (I'd have been spitting chips if I had been one of the kids!)
