) at least until the XX century. And JC’s male line is superior, in terms of royalty, to VE’s and QF’s.
Well, I suppose she meant that the Bourbons ( a male branch of the Capets ), when they inherited Spain, had been Kings since the IX century. The Hannovers, when they inherited the UK were only electors. The SCG simply Dukes.
In terms of “prestige”, they were not comparable. And the Hesse-Battenbergs, well... as you say.
I guess you could argue that the first Bourbon monarch of Spain was only the grandson of a king whereas the first Hanoverian monarch of Britain was the great-grandson of a king (who was himself descended from a long line of kings) so only one generation 'inferior'.
However, JC was descended from Bourbon monarchs on both sides of his ancestry whereas Queen VE was saddled with the admittedly parvenu Battenbergs on one side so I guess that means JC wins on points!
