They so want to be a part of the older teenagers' world and are struggling with their parents to wear "older" clothes to appear more mature. They don't want to be viewed as a "baby" which means they don't want the older adults in their world constantly pawing or hugging them. Leonor had already probably been hugged by people in church and she had quite enough. I don't care if these girls are princesses or paupers, Leonor's attitude was perfectly normal for her age. She also was probably tired and bored. I think both girls behaved beautifully shaking hands with the public and smiling.
Personally - and this is probably because I'm an American - but I think too much is expected of these children. One formal family snap in front of the church is more than enough and someone else can escort them home out of the side door. They already have sat through a service and they probably were tired and bored. Let the adults remain behind and do the hand-shaking.
