Does anybody know what, if anything, the widowed Queen Marie thought of her only son marrying a woman like Thyra -- a princess with a scandalous reputation? After all, she had a past, having borne an illegitimate daughter conceived through an affair before marriage.
It has never been proven that Thyra had an illegitimate daughter, but assuming the rumour is true, it does not necessarily mean that she "had an affair" or "a scandalous reputation". She might well have been a victim of grooming. In 1873 Queen Victoria allowed her son Arthur to travel to Denmark and court Thyra, so her reputation can't have been that scandalous.
