says to ALL: *After amusing myself for several hours with happy thoughts, I set out to track the tabuk's blood trail, which leads into a kalana thicket.*

says to ALL: *The problem with this kind of hunt, is that by the time I find the tabuk, I might not be the only one looking. For the sake of quiet, I decide to leave my bow and quiver on the edge of the thicket, and go in after the tabuk with just my spear and knives.*

says to ALL: *I can tell by the amount of blood, that the tabuk is not going to be dead. This is a bad situation, the more I let the tabuk bleed, the easier it will be to put it down - but the more likely it will be that another predator will come along and take the kill. I am going to get one good chance with the spear, if I am lucky. If this tabuk bolts, it will most likely be lost to me.*

says to ALL: *Eventually, I can hear the tabuk's labored breathing, and I think I have the location pinpointed. When the tabuk noisily exhales, I creep closer. When I get closer, I am pretty sure I see a large horn, thus a male. So don't want to take him on from the front. If I can circle around a bit, and then come at the beast directly from behind, I can hopefully avoid the horn, see how the tabuk is injured, and stretegize whether to try and make the existing wound worse, or attack a new spot. For example, if I already wounded one hind leg, going for the other leg makes the most sense.*

says to ALL: *When I get closer, I am pretty sure I can see the fletchings of the arrow, sticking out of the left haunch, so I definitely want to go for the right rear leg. A four-legged beast can get-it pretty good on three legs, but isn't going anywhere on two.*

says to ALL: *I was hoping to be able to get close enough to stab the tabuk with my spear, but that is not going to happen, because he is in a pretty dense thicket. I am going to have to trick the tabuk out of thicket towards me. I quietly ease the big knife out of it's sheath, and throw it in a high arce, over the top of the tabuk, so that it lands noisily opposite my position, and startles the tabuk to instinctively bolt right towards me.*

says to ALL: *At first, the tabuk doesn't see me, as I am completely motionless. When he does, he will either go high or low. Low, leading with the horn to try and take me out, or he will go high to leap over me. If I guess wrong, I could get in trouble here. The tabuk has a bum leg that has been stiffening up, he probably won't jump, so I am going to have to try and stab the spear blade into the tabuk's eye. If I miss, I could get gored or trampled or both. As time slows down, the way my brain processes it, it occurs to me that this has got to be one of the main reasons that Panthers form into bands. What could be only a minor injury with first-aid and assistance, could easily be fatal for me alone.*

says to ALL: *The tabuk does go low. He has big, bulging eyes in the side of his head. I sidestep to my left, stabbing at a diagonal angle mostly down, a bit left, trying to put the spear blade through the eye and into the brain. I feel a jarring impact up my arm to my right shoulder, and I feel the blade scraping bone, hoping it is the inside of the eye socket, not the outside, as the spear is wrenched from my grip and I dive to ground as far to my left as I can get.*

says to ALL: *The tabuk doesn't know he's dead yet, as the brain damage on the left side of the brain leaves the left side of the body still able to move. But the other side of the beast is non-responsive, and it falls, thrashing and spasming, hoofs and horn; I scramble on all fours, farther to my left, hoping to get out of the way without taking a hit, which fortunately I do. The next trick will be to get the tenderloins and get the heck out of here before the carrion birds draw bigger predators.*
