This is the first price restore in 7 weeks, the longest period of falling prices I have ever witnessed. From $3.199 to $2.149 is a 32.8% drop, nearly one-third. I do not expect this new price to last long. This price seems to be based on Monday's market close. The market flattened out last week and remained that way on Monday. For the first time in several weeks, I thought there was a possibility it would go up this week (that's why I got gas on Sunday for $2.189), but I did not have enough confidence to make a public prediction. Based on Monday's closing price, the restore price would have been $2.269. Since Speedway-Marathon always restores to a price ending in 5 or 9, $2.299 makes sense. Based on Monday's close, Speedway's minimum retail price would have been $2.15, which is exactly what it fell to: $2.149. The market fell 8¢ on Tuesday and another 3¢ today. That would make Speedway's current minimum price $2.039, so I am expecting this new $2.299 to disappear quickly. Some competitors may not even go up to the new price. Five of the fourteen Speedways in the Kalamazoo area have already dropped to $2.199 since the increase this morning to $2.299. Week 35 - Thursday, August 31 - DID NOT GO UP THIS WEEK
Week 36 - Thursday, September 7 - DID NOT GO UP THIS WEEK
Week 37 - Thursday, September 14 - DID NOT GO UP THIS WEEK
