However, if a woman was to be made a princess in her own right instead of her right to her title coming from her husband it would come directly from the Monarch themselves.
However, we then have an issue. For example if, say, Sarah Duchess of York had been made Princess in her own right when she married Prince Andrew. And she was made Princess for her own lifetime. As they divorced she would have still been entitled to be Princess Sarah. Same would have been for Diana. I personally don't think that is right. Fine for those who marry and stay married, but not fine for those who marry and don't stay married.
