Steven, where do you stand on historical fiction in general? I have mixed feelings about it. There's some historical fiction I enjoy because it's well done. And there are times where I feel a story has changed the facts too much. But I must admit my judgment toward historical fiction is a bit arbitrary and not consistent. For example, I rather enjoy the movie Braveheart and the many inaccuracies don't bother me. Yet I can watch Young Victoria and those inaccuracies do bother me!

Those inaccuracies you refer to are different, not just because of the distance in centuries but again because of the intent of the producer. Especially when it's about issues and actions that never happened. In this case of "The Crown", Dame Judi previously played Victoria in her later years. It was interpretive and even speculative. But nothing arising to the level of malicious intent here in what's been alleged of a living former PM and a living monarch and his predecessor. Recent "disclaimers" can't indemnify them entirely either.
