Practically as Noel was so kind to mention the adoption of Max Prinz von Bayern by the last Herzog in Bayern was instigated to make sure he could inherit that line's properties. So legally his surname changed to Herzog in Bayern.
Dynastically and in social circumstances his adoption did not alter his dynastic position and he still is the heir of his older brother. As such his dynastic and social title is HRH prince Max of Bavaria, duke in Bavaria. This because his adoption was agreed upon by the head of the house. Their motives had little to do with the title but that does not change the fact that it also included the title.
The same with the adoption of the second Duke of Teschen. The archduchess Maria Christina and her husband prince Albert Casimir of Saxony were made duke and duchess of Teschen as their only daughter died young they adopted Maria Christina's nephew archduke Karl of Austria. Younger son of Leopold Grand duke of Tuscany and later Emperor Leopold II. The ducal title of Teschen was part of the inheritance Karl inherited from his adoptive parents.
Do you mean what is his correct title dynastically?
Only by means of
-a civil adoption-
-in a republic-
is he named Herzog in Bayern.
For him it is -not- a title at all; a royal title would have to be granted to him by either a King or the Head of the Royal House. That did not happen.
