I do not know whether the King of Spain has been already invited to pay a State visit to the Netherlands. He has been invited to visit Japan, Morocco and the UK (cancelled last year)

: Johan,
:
: A state-visit to the UK is highly unlikely
: during the EU-UK negotiations about the
: Brexit. It would be a can of worms no Dutch
: politician (other than the peroxide clown)
: is willing to open.
:
: As for Italy, that too should be seen in
: EU-light: Italy is together with The
: Netherlands and four others, one of the
: founding members of the ECCS/EC,
: predecessors of the EU. As such, the ties
: between our countries have been lengthy and
: good for all these years.
:
: Germany was visited on national level during
: a visit shortly after the King became King.
: And as Germany is a federal union of states
: who have a large independency amongst each
: other and in their relation to Berlin, it
: makes sense to focus on the different
: Länder, especially from an economic point of
: view.
:
: And don't forget that in order to pay a
: state-visit, the King must have been invited
: first and perhaps no such invitation has
: been sent from countries like Spain and this
: could be for numerous reasons. For Spain,
: the ties with countries in South- and
: Latin-America are very important and the
: Spanish Foreign Office could very well have
: decided to 'use' the budget for state-visits
: for these countries and not for The
: Netherlands.
: And of course as the Spanish King ascended
: the throne after the Dutch King, it is royal
: protocol that he will pay an official
: state-visit first.

: I cannot always understand why certain
: countries get a State Visit while others are
: passed over.
:
: A Dutch state visit to Germany makes sense
: it's our neighbour and most important
: economical partner. A visit to Denmark is
: less clear but has several motives to
: understand. It's queen is our King's
: godmother and the peoples of both nations
: have similar ideals.
: France is another big European power so also
: a clear destination for an early state
: visit. The same with Poland, the Poles where
: part of the liberation forces and the Dutch
: Royals have always shown a major interest in
: the newly freed east of Europe.
:
: What i don't get is why there has not been a
: State Visit to the UK (possibly our second
: or third economical market) since the early
: 80's. A state visit to Italy is strange
: considering that we have more dealings with
: the UK or Spain and those countries are also
: monarchies so i'd expect them to be visited
: before Italy.

: At the invitation of President Sergio
: Mattarella, King Willem-Alexander and Queen
: Máxima will pay a state visit to the Italian
: Republic this summer. Besides Rome, the
: royal couple intend to visit two other
: cities – Milan, in the north, and Palermo,
: in the south.
:
: The King and Queen will also pay a state
: visit to the Holy See in Vatican City, where
: they will be received by Pope Francis.
:
: The state visits will take place from 20 to
: 23 June 2017
