says to ALL: *I return to my campsite amongst the Grandfather Turs. Maybe it's a trick of the mind, but it always feels a few degrees warmer in cold weather, like the giant trees have body heat. More likely, they absorb sunlight during the day, and radiate that heat at night. Whether it is real, or a trick of the mind, I think I can do without a fire tonight. I think I will be warm enough in my furs. Whether I sleep much, that will be a different story.*

says to ALL: *Todays task is to spit roast the tabuk backstrap-tenderloin. I'll build a fire to create the hot coals I will roast the tenderloin over. So the first thing is, I will need more wood.*

says to ALL: I don't want to disturb the forest floor in this area, by collecting wood. Nothing says "look for a campsite here!" like when there is no combustable wood on the Forest floor, because somebody is gathering it for firewood. It's more work to bring wood and water to a campsite, than to locate where both are right there, but it pays off in seclusion and security. But there is a balance to it too. The more time you spend traveling, the more likely you are to run into trouble while doing so. And if food is scarce, you have to consider the calories burned in moving stuff around. For now, with all this meat, and with spring coming, when food is most plentiful here, I can afford the calories to bring in wood and water from distance.*

says to ALL: *Everything is more complicated when you are by yourself. The hard part of moving wood and water is if you use two hands to do it, you are not going to be well-armed if you meet a sleen or panther. So, what I have to do is stash weapons along the route, so if need be, I can drop what I have in my hands and get to a stashed weapon. Which is one of the reasons I had taken the time and trouble to acquire that duffle-bag of weapons, more than I hope to ever need - so I will have these stash-points in the Forest.*

says to ALL: *A tuchuk lance leaned on a tree at the 1/4 point, bow and quiver hanging from a branch at the halfway point, a spear stuck in a bush at the 3/4 point - I set these items along the path I will take to the fallen tree. When I get to the tree, the duffle will be empty but for handsaw, Torv axe, and hatchet. I will be able to load the bag with wood, and make the trip back to camp, leave the wood there, and go back for the weapons.*

says to ALL: *This fallen tree is going to provide a great deal of wood, if I have the energy to harvest it. I can't do it piecemeal, because a half-harvested tree screams "Stake-out here, because whoever left these saw-marks will be back for more wood!" It's alot easier to hide a wood pile at a camp-site than saw marks on a half-harvested tree. For now though, I want to saw off a branch with a long piece of 2-3" diameter branch, and enough twigs to get a decent blaze going, and slowly burn the long branch for coals. I will drag this branch back, counting on the rake-effect of the branches dragging, to conceal my trails, both the one I made coming, and the one I will make going.*

says to ALL: *Sawing is long slow work, the kind of work that leaves one open to reflection. My thoughts drift to affairs of the heart, and I realize something that I have been finding my way towards understanding for the last several days. Like Kimba used to say, "Follow your path in the Forest, and you will eventually find the answers you seek." There is just something about the spirit of the place that frees the spirit and the intellect to understand truth. Like you need to get the reek of civilization out of your nose before you can really think clearly.*

says to ALL: *I did not cost them their Home. I was just the catalyst that made it happen sooner, rather than later. He was still on the outs with those who would take over when Donar was gone. So I was wrong about that. He's probably better-off getting out now, before those morons run things into the ground. But, getting out of Tuchuk was still the right move. I would have been a sad-sack, moping and crying and making everybody feel bad because they couldn't comfort me. And I would surely have taken it out on that girl at some point.*

says to ALL: *Having cut a suitable branch, I take a small can of lighter-fluid and my wick-lighter from my waist-pouch. I pour a bit of lighter-fluid on the cut-mark where I took the branch, and light it. It burns for an ehn, and blackens the cut mark, so it looks like lightning took the branch long ago. I then drag the branch over to a thick bush, where I can break off alot of the twigs, and lose the litter in the bush, as I fill up the duffle with small pieces of firewood. I take care to leave enough twigs and branchlets on the 12' length of branch to get that raking effect when I drag it. I put the handsaw and hatchet in the bag, close it up and shoulder it over my left shoulder. That way I can drag the branch by holding it couched under my right arm, and carry the Torvie-axe in my left hand, as I head back to my campsite. I take one last look at the fallen tree, to make sure there is no visible evidence of my work here, and satisfied that there is none, I head back to my campsite.*
