The Dietz lanterns and SG&L lanterns that are the same style were probably made with the same tooling in the same plant. R E Dietz owned 50% of SG&L from the beginning to end. Several lantern models were released simultaneously by both companies. I need to compare some patent markings to answer your question about the patent dates. Some of the burners are marked "DIETZ & SG&L".
