Re: Dating a Dietz Junior Wagon Lantern.
Thanks John! The last patent on this is JUNE-21-10. The bail is the regular junior Wagl bail and appears to be out of place on this Junior Side Lamp, which should have the Radical Offset bail shown in the 1913 catalog. I have 8 Junior Side's and they all have the RO bail. All indications are that these were made starting in 1909 and then changed in 1914, adding the spring wire clip, changing the bail to the Lazy S, losing the bead in the fount skirt, and changing the name to Junior Wagon Lamp. Junior Wagon Lamps are rare, made only until 1916 when the name changed again to Junior Wagon Lantern. The vertical tube reinforcement starts in 1915 and the large fill in 1916. The 1909-1911 Junior Side Lamp has the combo mount attached by 4 rivets and the usual cut or tapped fill port. The 1912-1914 versions have the combo mount with soldered tabs and machine wrought fill port, like this one. The Hindi/English fount starts in 1911, replacing the New York Junior fount used since 1901 on the Junior.
