You've reminded me of a line from an old sci-fi movie "forbidden planet" when a starship crewman makes a remark about the oxygen rich atmosphere on the planet they're on to "Robbie" a robot who replies, "I seldom use it sir, it promotes rust". That having been said, I'm sure you know oxygen and oxygen containing compounds like water have to be prevented from contact with the metal to prevent rusting and how difficult that will be here on Earth. Over time I've ruled out waxes and oils because of dust collecting issues and were too labor intensive to maintain. For the moment, since I have spray equipment, I prefer a spray on rust preventing coating of either clear matte or gray matte finish. For me It works best because it provides the best contiguous coverage of the surfaces and doesn't crack, split or peel, preventing air and moisture from making contact and slowing rust down as much as possible. An occasional dusting with a micro-fiber cloth keeps them clean. That is the longest lasting most economical solution I've discovered so far, but I too wish there was a quick dip in a bucket solution and eagerly await discovery of one.
Best regards,
Willis
