Viper snake ...

Posted by Cathy on 9/14/2026, 1:45 pm

I talked to my sister today and my youngest niece was bitten on the foot at a bird sanctuary by a viper. My niece didn't see it in time. Thankfully the hospital was 3 minutes away and they sent an air ambulance and were waiting with the antivenom. She was in intensive care but is going home today. She lives close to my sister in Florida.

My niece's husband was with her (thankfully!) and quickly took a pic to show the doctors. He also killed the viper.

OMG. I never heard of a viper snake. I'm going to look it up right now.

Viper is a term for venomous snakes. They can be copperheads, or rattlesnakes, or cottonmouths, etc..

I'm so glad she got treated and will be okay.

Florida is full of venomous snakes. I hope she will have no lasting effects.

Wow, scary! Glad she’s going to be ok. I bet the birds are glad that snake is gone, too!

my sister said that it was a viper rattlesnake. I wonder if it was the dusky pygmy rattlesnake--apparently they cause the most rattlesnake bites in Florida. I was envisioning a green pit viper.

I'll check in with my sister later in the week. I hope that there aren't any bad lasting effects.
