Diane, Any news about Max?

I hope he is at least feeling a bit better. I worry about him, and about you. PLease keep us updated.

IThanks for asking. I just finished spraying him because he's preening so much. He's sitting on his rope perch that's sitting outside the cage with his back towards me. He's eating but he is eating a lot less than he used to. I think preening himself a good sign.

He's probably gonna molt if he hasn't already. I hope he improves a lot more, fast!

Hoping Max feels better soon. My 5 tiels have all been going through a very heavy molt. maybe he is going through this also.

I hope he feels better, too. I remember molting times. My tiels always felt so miserable. And I hated when they would yelp in pain when they hit a feather wrong that they were going to lose.

Diane: Max's behavior after losing his long time buddy is really similar to Bailey's after Snickers left us for the Bridge.
I wish I could say he came around, but he was never the same bird no matter what I tried.
Those moults made things even more heartbreaking for me...the physical as well as the emotional pain he was in.
I also relate to the struggle with having no birds for the first time in 50 years. It is hard for me to get used to the emptiness...the silence. I am too old, now, to begin a new relationship, but I wish things could be different.
Good thoughts for Max...and for you.

He's eating but I know it's more than being just sick. He was never a people's bird. I really think it's a lot more than physical. He's needs another bird. I can't. This is not a bird friendly apartment, Even at my age if I had family I could leave him to if something happened to me I would get one but I don't. I know he likes it more when I'm sitting with him but it's not enough. Even if I had the vet over, she gave me antibiotics, he would be so stressed out when I gave them to him. When Dorian first passed I thought he might come around at least a little. He's not. It seems to be getting worse. I feel horrible. Birds definitely need a flock and Max never included me as part of his flock. I keep trying to by buying him more and more toys.

This all mirrors my situation. I live in an apartment that is not "bird friendly" and I have no one to step up for another bird should something happen to me. I so wish I could rescue one. Bailey never recovered and when he DID "age into" some neurological issues that popped up from time to time, he was utterly terrified without Snickers. Yes, I was here, but we were never bonded as tightly as he and Snickers. We both tried, I think, to make it work but it never really did. He ate... He drank... He preened.... At times, he would come to the side of the cage when I sang to him. But, I really felt that after 4 years he was seeing himself as "less than" no matter what. It was heartbreaking, so I feel your pain/frustration, Diane!

I'm so sad for you both. I'm still adjusting to not having a bird.

Speaking of mirrors: Would a mirror help Max, do you think?
