I was away from the house today and saw a calendar. 9/11/2024 23 years ago today, America was attacked. The heroism of the people the police, the firefighters, everyone who tried to save others, who lost their lives will not be, and should not be, forgotten.
I can still remember that day like it was yesterday. I may have been one of the last people in the world who learned about the twin towers, the Pentagon, and flight 93. I didn't learn about it until after 4 pm that day when I turned the television on.
The horror of the lives lost, of how people died, of the families that lost loved ones will never leave me. the courage of people facing death, will never cease to humble me.
Most of all, the memory of the days after, when the world was quieter, and kinder, when people reached out to strangers to lend a hand or offer a shoulder, will never cease to touch my soul. Every kind gesture was a tribute to the 3000 who lost their lives.
Never forget any of it. Let it make us all more patient, more kind, more understanding, and more appreciative of each and every day we are given.

That day was tragic and mind boggling. I have rarely skipped turning on the news in the morning since.
Someone at work had a radio on and they broke in to make the announcement(s). Another coworker had a small TV so we watched the whole God-awful thing unfold. It was absolutely terrifying. Nobody knew what was going on and then President Bush went radio silent, disappeared. Simultaneously another of my coworkers received a phone call letting us know that our boss had succumbed to his cancer and had just passed away. She went into horrid wails of keening. So it's also seared in my mind.
