My biggest worry is food. I worry they can't find the foods the like and eat enough. So I add molting crumbles to the food, and for Solomon, extra sunflower seeds. At his age I don't worry about fats, because he's on the thin side, and whatever he can eat, I will give him. I also use that low sodium Ezekiel bread, which has zero sodium. It's sprouted grains, and my birds love it. It's helped Solomon a lot
Other than that, just talk to him a lot during the day, reassure him he's not alone. Sing to him, is he likes you singing to him that is. He needs extra reassurance that he's still in your flock, and you're still watching over him and keeping him safe.
I wish we could fix them, bring the eyesight back. A vet told me, surgery wasn't an option for Solomon, because Tiels, with their big hearts, are still little birds... and he's elderly. All we can do is love them through it.
Sending big hugs your way, Juanita.. Just let him know, you're there.
Once in a while, Solomon does what you describe. He gets startled, or maybe wakes up, and forgets where he is for a moment. He's not tame, but I talk to him from my usual spots in the living room, so he knows I'm not coming to pick him up, but that I'm there, and he's protected. It seems to help. I hope it does.
