Re: Marybird, how long will you have to wait to get your home repaired?
I hope it won't take too long. We signed a contract with a local roofing company to have our roof replaced ( shingles) and they gave us a timeframe of 2-4 weeks to start. The earliest time to start would be 11/16, though I think it will be later as I'm sure the storm and rain before and after has set them back a few days. The roof needs to be done before anything else. They will replace the soffits too, but apparently those are in short supply so not sure about those ( we may stuff fiberglass or some sort of sheets in the spaces left by the soffits to keep out the critters till they are replaced. We also need the ceiling drywall torn out and replaced with new drywall, then that needs textured and painted. The roofing company owner has a guy that can get that organized and we have gotten an estimate for that. Not sure when that will get done, but it involves a major part of the house ( great room that encompasses the living, dining rooms, breakfast nook and kitchen, so we will have to move everything out and find a place to stay while its done ( maybe a week?). We will also be removing any insulation that wasn't removed with the ceiling, and replacing that. We haven't gotten anyone for that yet. We plan on having the attic checked out for mold, and if its there and meets the criteriam it may need mold remediation. I hope not, we haven't seen any mold and can't smell it, so maybe a good drying out will suffice. I don't know if it's a realistic estimate to say maybe 6 months, considering the demand for this work now. We have yet to receive any money for repairs ( just promises) from the homeowner's insurance company, hopefully we will soon, as that may well play into when things get done. But what we wanted done ASAP was the roof replacement. We can still live in the house, no problems, everything works, and we had our water treatment system replaced so we have good water.
