We also went through a number of other hurricanes over the years ( Katrina and Wilma in 2005 in Miami and Irma in 2017 in Punta Gorda), and numerous tropical storms over the years, but had little to no damage to our house during those storms. I think we lost a roof ridge vent during Wilma, but we found it in the yard afterwards and my husband put it back up on the roof. We lost the screen from the screen enclosure, and some damage to the screen frame (tree hit it) but the cost of replacement was less than our hurricane insurance deductible so no claim.
The damage from Ian to our current house is minor compared to what happened in Andrew. We lost shingles and roofing felt down to the wood, allowing for water intrusion through the ceiling, damaging the ceiling drywall. But the roof and the rest of the house are structurally ok, everything in the house works and we replaced the damaged water system, so we are able to live there comfortably while we wait for the work to get done, which hopefully won't be too long.
I think we've had our share of bad hurricanes for one lifetime, though!
