You can't ever recover from something as catastrophic as Ian. I went to my bank's ATM last night and they set it up where you can donate to the American Red Cross, which I did. I grew up in Mass. and in 1986 my sister's area flooded from the Connecticut River. It does that every so many years. It has nowhere to go so it heads to creeks and tributaries which then overflow. Well, one of the tributaries lay near my sister's street. Her house came close to floating away but it didn't. They had to brace it up with jacks until it was all repaired. My point is that they lost everything in the cellar. My 2 nieces had bedrooms down there. The American Red Cross stepped up to the plate and gave them vouchers for a hotel stay plus vouchers to replace the material things.
