I am concerned about the degree of ivy removal occurring in St. James Gardens. Ivy is an essential part of the habitat and a source of food for many creatures. The berries provide food for Blackcaps and Blackbirds. The foilage contains many invertebrates which provide vital food for insectivorous and spider-eating birds, especially when they have chicks and are solely dependent on natural sources of food. The foilage provides places to hibernate for Tortoiseshell, Peacock, Red Admiral and Brimstone butterflies and nest sites and roosting cover for Robins, Blackbirds and many other birds. I have been enjoying the Gardens for many years now and would hate to see the wildlife value of this site decline. Please can we see a halt to any further removal of ivy? Many thanks, Lucy Page
