Re: Dutch representation
One would think that there would have been contact in private between a godfather and his godson.
So even though Constantijn and Laurentien were not very often present at international royal gatherings, a private connection would be reason enough to be present at the funeral.
But perhaps the Oranjes have a different idea about the meaning of the role of godfather/ godchild.
I don't (didn't) see my godparents often, 1-2 a year and a few calls and cards/ e-mails throughout the year but if one dies, I will attend (have attended) their funeral.
Was there a warm relationship between the two Constantijns throughout the years? Neither Constantijn, nor Laurentien submerged themselves much in (any) royal circles. Only very occasionally do we seem them interact with their distant relatives / colleagues.
I am kind of baffled that the Dutch Prince Constantijn won't be present in Athens. The late King is his godfather after all.
Prince Joachim has confirmed he is going.
Also the Princess Royal from the UK.
A spokesperson for the Greek government mentioned they were expecting the Prince of Wales, but no official confirmation of that yet.
King & Queen of the Belgians
King & Queen of the Netherlands and Princess Beatrix
