Grand Duchess Joséphine-Charlotte was very close to her first cousin Flemming and his brother Georg.
They had frequent contact.

Count Flemming & Countess Ruth e.g. attended the wedding of Hereditary Grand Duke Henri with Maria Teresa Mestre in February 1981.
They were present for the funeral of King Boudewijn in August 1993 and I personally saw a simple, but beautiful flower wreath in the shape of a heart with the only names Flemming & Ruth, lying on the stairs of the cathedral in Brussels at the funeral.
Grand Duchess Joséphine-Charlotte (and apparently also Grand Duke Jean) attended the funeral of Count Flemming in 2002, while Countess Ruth was present at the funeral of Grand Duchess Joséphine-Charlotte in January 2005. That same year, Countess Ruth also attended with all close family members of Queen Astrid the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of her birth in November 2005 in Brussels on invitation of King Albert II.

Count Flemming & Countess Ruth frequently visited King Boudewijn & Queen Fabiola at their Spanish holiday residence Villa Astrida in Motril.

Count Flemming's brother Prince Georg of Denmark attended the funeral of his uncle King Leopold III in 1983 in Brussels. He was also present at the wedding of Princess Astrid of Belgium & Archduke Lorenz of Austria-Este in 1984. Previous Message

Great posting and remembrance, Stig!
Amazing in the picture that his maternal grandmother is siting next to his paternal grandfather, who is the uncle of his maternal grandmother, so his paternal grandfather is also his great-uncle.

Haha. And his own cousin? Do you know if Prince/Count Flemming had any contact with his Belgian cousins after the death of his maternal grandparents? Previous Message

Today, 9 March, would have been the 100th birthday of Prince Flemming of Denmark, later Count of Rosenborg, who died in 2002.
He was the younger son of Prince Axel of Denmark and Princess Margaretha of Sweden - and was thus a first cousin of King Harald of Norway, King Baudouin and King Albert of Belgium, Grand Duchess Josephine-Charlotte of Luxembourg and Queen Anne of Romania.

Here is a picture from his confirmation in 1937, taken at The Yellow Mansion where his grandfather, Prince Valdemar, gave a luncheon.
