Thank you so much, Nellie. It was really interesting to read Ralph Heimans' recollections.
I was never presented to Prince Philip but I observed him at close hand on walkabouts many times. He would walk behind the Queen, hands behind his back, on the lookout for a child with a dejected face who had missed the opportunity to give Her Majesty flowers. He would make eye contact with the mother & then say, "Come along then, come with me". He'd take the child by the hand and shout to Her Majesty, "There's someone here who would like to give you something". She would turn around and graciously accept the flowers. I don't who had the biggest grin, the child or Prince Philip.
Lovely!
