Would that not leave the crown prince and princess Benedikte to step in for HM when she is abroad? Or has Benedikte never acted as regent?
Today Crown Princess Mary has been appointed as regent in case her mother-in-law Queen Margrethe is absent/abroad or when her husband, Crown Prince Frederik is also absent/abroad.
Normally this honour/duty has only been given to royals who hold a place in the line of succession to the throne. The only exception so far has been Queen Ingrid. It is probably Prince Joachim's temporary relocation to Paris that has prompted the Queen to appoint an extra possible regent.
