The Norwegian parliament chose to postpone the change from male preferred to primogeniture to the generation of the grandchildren of the then crown prince Harald.Leaving ML's younger brother Haakon as second in line to the throne ahead of his sister.
Had they chosen the Swedish route and made ML second in line of succession she would not have relinquished her HRH and would have had a different life. Im not sure she would have married Ari Behn either.
She comes across as kind and with good intentions. Yes a bit spiritual but that does not mean she might not have been a good queen. Juliana of the Netherlands was extremely popular and effective throughout her 32 years as queen and like ML was very spiritual.
She really does march to her own beat.
I cannot help but think that for the very first time, primogeniture was the absolute best thing to happen to a monarchy. I don't agree with it in general, but in this case, it appears to have been quite a convenient safeguard to ensure that the Norwegian monarchy continues on mostly unscathed.
Can you even imagine if things were the other way around? My goodness...
