While I have little to no knowledge of the Scandinavian languages (most of what I know I have learned from this message board), what would be the reason for young Scandinavians to speak to each other in English rather than their own mother tongue?
Queen Margrethe has recently given a short TV interview about Nordic brotherhood, which means a lot to her. Here she says that it drives her crazy to hear young Scandinavians communicate with each other in English instead of speaking their own mother tongue (Swedish/Norwegian/Danish) which ought to be understood across borders.
The interview can be watched here (scroll down): https://www.bt.dk/royale/dronning-margrethe-traet-af-vane-hos-ungdommen-det-driver-mig-til-vanvid
