I'm just surprised that the author didn't mention them -- or Belgium, for that matter -- among the royal houses eligible for intermarriage with Catholic dynasties. Linguistic barriers aside, one occasionally witnessed marriages between German and Latin-language speaking countries. Didn't Infanta Maria Ana of Portugal (daughter of Queen Maria II) marry the future King Georg of Saxony?
Saxony is another good example of a kingdom not mentioned by the author: although the subjects were mostly Protestants, the sovereigns were Catholics.
