One of the most shocking pro wrestling moments in years took place Saturday night when International heavyweight champion General Zod pinned Giant Fezzik to win the Demented Intense Grappling heavyweight title. Zod is apparently under the management of Portly Wayne Hangover, who used a loophole in stipulations granted earlier to allow a wrestler of his choosing to challenge for the DIG championship. Information was difficult to gather after the match: DIG promoter Dr. Dementia was at an uncharacteristic loss for words following the main event, Zod was under a gag order from Hangover, who issued a mere “no comment, baby” when pressed. Former champion Fezzik seemed resign to a fate known only to himself: “That little man [Hangover] pulled the wool over everybody’s eyes, after I promised he would not. What happened is grossly unacceptable.” It is not known whether the PWL had advance knowledge of General Zod’s involvement in the DIG event. Efforts to reach officials from the PWL and Big Stewie Entertainments were unsuccessful.
The highlight of the undercard at the DIG show was undoubtedly the brawl between Charley Hawse and “Magical” Elton Hercules. Both wrestlers battled their way through nearly 30 minutes of bloody, brutal, no-disqualification action. Hawse won the bout by technical knockout when Hercules was thrown through the barbed wire ropes and deemed unable to continue.
