When the Zoo took over Weirman in 2008, they built us the Heels Field Complex we have now. We had some problems with the field (Drainage, Infield, etc).

I think it was back in 2016 or so, may have been earlier, Wayne Stem talked to the Zoo and hey wanted to build us a nice 4 field complex. They first targeted East Norriton and when the plans were laid out, some land was on federal grounds (or state grounds) owned by the State Hospital. They tried every way to lay it out so it would work, but they couldn't fit it. Plus, it would essentially be in East Norriton and They may have had control of it and Heels did not want that.

Nothing against East Norriton, but they rather have Heyday Sports Softball there with people paying over 700-800 for 7 scheduled games. No liability insurance, you sign a waiver. Heels talked to them and said for 40 bucks a team, you can have all the Liability Insurance you need to cover anybody. They opted for Heyday. Some guys like that, so I won't say anything bad. Ever since Nick Delaney's mom left to go to Lower Providence, East Norriton now wants an arm and a leg to use that field. So, Heels saying no to that complex in East Norriton was in retrospec, the right thing.

Then there was mention of building a complex on the Old State Hospital grounds down the road where the old DiRenzos was. But the Borough Administration sort of brushed that off saying they wanted a Rec Center with Basketball Courts. So that went away.

Now, the Zoo, with Al Zone, CEO in our corner, they have fixed up the old Latshaw Field, moved the fence in, red0d the Infeld, Dugouts, put fencing around the entire complex. They still have to work some issues with the light, but I would bet, that field would be ready come Spring.

Yes, it is not the 4 field Complex we envisioned, but its better than we have now. Heels Field is nice, but the hops on the infield are dangerous and its not going to get any better.
