He is credited with braving enemy fire during 26 rescue missions during WWII, saving wounded United States Marines, and was awarded the Bronze Star with a combat 'V.' He was a true war hero and someone our youth should look up to. Not like the "sports heroes" and movie stars of today. As a matter of fact even he was better known for Green Acres than for his amazing war record. Our society seems to have all values backwards.

He was also a Beach Boy. He filled in for Brian and played with them for at least one tour if not two.
