VAR

Shambles, noticed they didn't intervene on that stamp on Norwoods ankle, should of been a red card

Personally, Bungle, I thought it was one of those. He could have, I understand why he didn't*, so not, as you say, 'should have', but certainly wish he would have.

*What I didn't get with the first VAR decision was that it was 50/50 coming together, and the view the ref saw did not clearly it was a foul.

The second VAR decision shows that a lot of footballers are, shall we say, not the sharpest tools in the box. Having taught a few, I can vouch for that.

Story of the game was Bolton substitutions. It was always a big concern that they have had prolific match winning success all season with players coming off the bench and in the end it was decisive in getting them promoted 😞

I agree with Browny
I was worried about their reserve players too
I couldn't understand why Sedebeh was taken off he had lots of energy left?
Adai I feel had one of his worst games this season he seemed unable to catch a shot?
Oh well

Without Addai getting his place back when he did, we wouldn't have made the playoffs imo

Re: VAR

If that's the case, imagine where we'd have been if he hadn't been dropped for poor form in the first place.

So your saying he wouldn't have found his form if given a run.

Ben had enough runs in the team, still didn't improve, but wasn't dropped until the Burton fiasco.

Still wearing those blinkers?

Re: VAR

the ones with Stats and Sots you mean

Re: VAR

Posted by DownUnderHatter User icon on May 25, 2026, 11:34:18, in reply to "Re: VAR "

That doesn't even make sense.

Both Hinchliffe and Addai have been replaced by the other because of mistakes they have made in the last two seasons.

The fact you only see the mistakes of one keeper means you're still wearing blinkers.

Addai made a mistake yesterday for the first goal.

Will that do

Only taken two seasons! 🤣

Re: VAR

He got a run and was dropped due to his poor form.

Two seasons in a row where that's happened now.

Simple question, after Burton who did you want ln nets for the next game?

Re: VAR

Posted by Fuzzbox User icon on May 25, 2026, 23:35:11, in reply to "Re: VAR "

Wogan or Metcalfe.
Ben had to be dropped after that Burton performance, but Addai is not the answer.

Re: VAR

Neither are Wogan or Metcalfe.

Metcalfe's here as nothing more than a third-choice keeper making up the numbers and I wouldn't be surprused to see him released now he's out of contract.

Wogan's clearly thouhht highly of but he's an absolute mile away from being a first choice keeper in a team pushing for promotion in League One.

You didn't want Ben in.

Re: VAR

What's that got to do with Corey Addai being dropped due to poor form two seasons in a row?

Re: VAR

That Ben never got dropped, until Burton.

Re: VAR

Posted by Nik User icon on May 25, 2026, 11:53:56, in reply to "Re: VAR "

This is nothing to do with Ben; I've not mentioned Ben once.

This is about Corey Addai, a goalkeeper who has now twice been dropped due to poor form.

I'd be interested whether you are actually able to defend Corey Addai without mentioning or referencing Ben; it doesn't seem like it.

Re: VAR

Of course I can defend Addai. I think he's been tremendous since he came back. However their first goal was down to him not smothering the shot.

Is it compulsory that keepers have to wear oven gloves?

The game has moved on since hobnail boots with knock-in studs and keepers spitting on their hands for grip. 🤣

Re: VAR

Hinchliffe will more than likely call it a draw on his career which will enable the club to bring in an experienced keeper & demote Addia to the bench. We will have to endure another year of this bean pole unless WBA come in for him as has been rumoured on here.

Sidibeh has been subbed off in every league game he's played for us; it's beyond me why it surprises people at this point.

My personal feeling about VAR is that it should have gone a long way to removing poor decisions from the game,as advertised, and yet week after week there are plenty of bad decisions still with VAR.

Just my feelings about VAR Matty, not today`s decisions. Like it or hate it, fact is that it was brought in for tv coz that is where the money tap is. Same thing with playoffs, rule bending and goal areas allowed to be WWE wrestling venues for corners, etc. Game has been sold and is on it`s way to full americanisation.

Re: VAR

Posted by Rustybar User icon on May 24, 2026, 23:37:11, in reply to "Re: VAR "

It wasn't just TV. The lack of an electronic decision system was making football look antiquated compared with other sports like tennis, cricket and egg chasing.

Football automatically has many contentious decisions. But perhaps the more incisive debate is not whether or not we should have VAR but what it's remit should be.

When it was first introduced it was supposed to be mostly about goal line decisions. But it seemed to magically evolve to being used for everything that happens - which is massively to the detriment of the game as a spectacle. The trouble is having gone there it is difficult to know how we'd ever go back.

It's a cocktail I invented...
