Long hard season

That was utter garbage can't see stott putting up with these performances. That's as bad as I've seen for a very long time lucky to come away with a point.

We simply cannot keep sitting back and inviting the other teams to come and take our lead from us; 7 games in and we've already done it several times.

Absolutely no urgency either in stoppage time, strolling to get the ball back like we're happy to take a point from a winning position at half time.

Agree on the subs; he complains that the players are showing zero ambition to win the game but then he takes off our wide players and leaves Wootton and Andrésson isolated up top without any outlet to get out of defence.

Three CMs who all just want to recycle the ball and keep possession but aren't and a defence sitting deep, just inviting Wigan to attack us. They equalise and we respond by bringing on two defenders. Even at the end, Addai and Olowu both on more than one occasion took an eternity to get the ball back in play in stoppage time rather than pushing for a winner.

We can't sit on leads and it's daft that we continue to try and do it.

There really wasnt much on the bench in terms of impact subs its one problems if Fevs, Mothersille and Diamond all start

We needed have game won from the starting XI more infuriating why we didnt press on after the early goal

We played well first half, but they had obviously seen our vulnerabilities against Bradford and they stepped it up 2nd half. We were poor in the 2nd half and could easily have come away with nothing. Slight rally at the end.
Not sure about Mothersille. He brought nothing to the game and was subbed early. Fevrier. Moxon and Hills tired badly in the 2nd half. Fiorini continues to show he is nothing special.

To be fair, the first half was not garbage and whilst we lost the impetus in 2nd half (and we got run ragged), it is still a point away from home against a strong team.
I feel it is more frustrating that we are not edging further ahead when dominating, but this will come as we have a quality squad and a decent manager and a good training set up.
It is a solid start...which I am thankful for.

Well DC doesn't think good.. not for the first time..and from the min we took the Leed after 3m so whatever he said at half time didn't work cos I thought we were much worse second half..he touched on him taking bit of resp I think but then as I heard it criticised the team again..

You haven't actually said that ,but every true County fan knows what you meant without actually putting it into to English. As for transfer spend ,nobody knows, County's transfer spend for the 2023/24 season is not publicly listed as a single figure on any sites like Transfermarkt, which focus on individual transactions and market values rather than overall club expenditure. However, the club made several loan signings and loan departures, including bringing in Brad Hills and Sam Cosgrove on loan from Norwich City and Barnsley respectively, and signing Owen Moxon permanently from Portsmouth. There were no major incoming permanent transfer fees, and the club focused more on players whose contracts had ended or were on loan from other clubs, which finished up with the club having a Group operating loss of £7.0m. What true County fans do know tho ,is the fact that we actually played away at Crawley in March 24 and not the home game that I mentioned in Sept 23 .

Well being 1 up,i wouldn't of taken fevrier,diamond and mothersille off and replaced them with 2 defences player's and the iceman,who was supposed to play the ball into the front 2

To be fair to Challinor, (who doesn't have the benefit of hindsight) taking Mothersille off after an hour made sense, we weren't as dominant as the first half and he was quite ineffective.

As that wasn't working the next two changes made sense as well. Andresson almost made it 2-0. If that had gone in the substitutions would've been deemed a masterstroke.

Unfortunately it didn't and we all know what happened next.

I think you've misunderstood due to the lack of a question mark at the end of Bungle's sentence. He's asking who is supposed to play the ball into the front two of Wootton and Andrésson.

Yep,see that. But totally agree with what the gaffer did, he went for some sort of reward as successful teams do ,scraping 1-0 wins and 0-0,1-1 draws, even then ,when he'd clearly settled for a 1-0 win or a point we still created a good chance for the Iceman whilst under the cosh.

I could see why he made the changes he did, but they were the wrong call, for me. Particularly subbing Fevrier and Diamond for O'Keeffe and Andrésson.

Bringing Fiorini on for Mothersille wasn't too bad, but it took an outlet away and brought in another CM who just turns the ball over. Then to take Diamond and Fevrier off too for O'Keeffe and Andrésson, it left us with no outlet from midfield, as there was nobody there to drive forward and bring Wootton and Andrésson into the game.

Then bringing on two defenders when Wigan equalise just shows the same lack of ambition to win the game that he complained about his players lacking.

That's the fourth time this season we've come away from a game where we've tried and failed to hold a lead for the majority of the second half. Challinor has said he isn't telling them to do that, but his substitutions can sometimes say otherwise.

If Wootton scores two minutes before the change, then the change to bring Andrésson on might not get made.

There’s no point hypothesising over things that didn’t happen when we all saw what did.

Wootton and Andrésson are left working off scraps as there’s nothing left on the pitch to drive the ball forward as they’ve all been subbed off and then when they inevitably equalise, we bring on two defenders.

That shows a lack of ambition to win the game to me; the same complaint Challinor made towards his players.

The performances in 4 out of 6 league games have followed the same pattern.

We were 2-0 up against Wycombe and sat back and it nearly cost us the win.

We were 2-0 up (and should have been 3/4 up) against Orient and sat back and it did cost us the win.

We had a great half and had plenty of chances against Bradford to go in more than 1-0 up at HT, then sat back in the second half and it cost us.

Had Andrésson scored that last second chance against Bradford, it wouldn’t have changed the performance that saw us yet again invite the opposition onto us in the second half.

It’s concerning that we’re repeating the same thing, despite Challinor identifying it as an issue.

Would that be unbeaten Bradford, the team that have already won from a goal behind twice this season?

Leyton Orient, a team that beat Wigan 2-0?

Wigan, a team that have only lost to Leyton Orient and Luton?

Wycombe don't count as we beat them and the pattern of our game against them is exactly the same as Bradford's.

I think we've played 4/5 teams that will be in or around the play-offs so only losing one is a good start.

Still lots of time to put a decent run together. Don't think it's time to panic just yet.

Their performances against other teams aren’t relevant, as we’re specifically talking about the games against us.

As you said earlier in this thread, Saturday was the first game you’ve watched this season; had you seen more, you’d have seen the pattern that we’re talking about.

Anyone watching that Bradford game could see the defeat coming a mile off when we went in at 1-0 having played our best half of football of the season but not taken the chances we’d had to go in with a bigger lead. Wycombe and Orient were warnings that this would happen and we slipped right back into that same pattern.

Nobody’s panicking (at least I’m not) but given that Challinor himself has raised it more than once in his post-match interviews, there’s clearly an underlying issue that needs sorting out.

Apart from last season we have been notoriously poor starters to the season, it does take time for players to get themselves into what the manager wants, give it time, I have full confidence in somebody who has the second best win ratio in our history, like anybody he will make the odd mistake but he makes far more good ones than bad

Of course I have confidence in Challinor; it's hard not to at this point.

That said, it's fair to also be concerned by us not seemingly addressing the second half issue.

As he says, after this week, we've now got four weeks without a Tuesday game so hopefully we can start working on it more closely and correcting whatever the issue is within the squad that's causing that drop off.

Again, no credit given to the opposition. The high press that works so well in nullifying teams in the first half is impossible to keep up for the whole game. It's rare that any team can dominate for 90 minutes. Especially against teams that will be battling it out at the top.

I could list a lot of teams that were leading at half time and didn't go on to win over the last weekend. Did they all sit back? Did City sit back v Brighton? (I really don't know).

As I said, when the same thing is happening in 4 out of 6 games this season, it's less about the opponent's performance and more about ours.

As I've said to you, if you'd have seen the performances being discussed, you'd understand what I'm saying; without seeing them, you're commenting blindly. It was predictable what was coming against Bradford and Wigan because we're repeatedly doing it.

That's why Wycombe is important to include when having this discussion despite the win; if you look at the scoreline alone then you can you did and not include it, but to me (and others, including Challinor) it was a warning sign.

That warning sign wasn't attended to, as the same thing happened at Orient, then the same thing happened at home to Bradford on the Tuesday.

Not surprised how people see it different, despite having a decent enough game both Fevs and Diamond tired and just couldn't hang onto the ball. Diamond had a 10 minute spell where he continuously picked the wrong option and kept giving the ball away. We got to the stage where we just couldn't keep the ball so rightly in my opinion the gaffer went to a 5-4-1/ 4-5-1 to try to hang on for a point. Be interesting to see how many teams come away from Wigan with a point.

Think it was a combination of Wigan employing a game plan how to beat us. They almost let us have possession in the first half and we didn’t kick on after taking an early lead. I think their plan was to come at us in the second half using their subs. We looked really poor and we were chasing shadows for most of the half.
I agree that the substitutions were baffling but the bench looked quite weak from the off. Diamond looked like the only one with the pace to hit them effectively on the break and I think he should have stayed on to help Woots. But when he got the ball he ran into traffic and was crowded out.
Was glad when the game ended.
