I've been a football fan all my life, nearly 80 years. I've been grounds were there over 80,000 fans squashed in, the majority standing. Sometimes you couldn't see the game and of course some fans got squashed. After the Hillsborough disaster the authorities brought in all seater stadiums for the higher leagues. Now some of the newer supporters are insisting on standing. They think that they can get a better view. WRONG. They also lack copnsideration for those who are elderly or disabled who wish to see all of the game. So I ask if you are one of those who wish to stand please consider those who cannot and sit down.

It's horses for courses. Some would prefer to stand all game, others would like to sit.
Birmingham and Rotherham away had safe standing and it gave everyone the best of both worlds.
Hillsborough is largely irrelevant here as all seater stadiums were wrongly implemented when terraces were blamed. As has been proven beyond all doubt, terraces were not the issue. Overcrowding was the issue.
People should be able to stand if they like. Clubs have a duty to cater for them and County should follow suit. Loads of Prem grounds have safe standing sections for those who prefer that.
Having done some games overseas, certain stadiums (especially some Spanish ones) have a far higher rake to them, really steep. The result is even if the person in front does stand, you're not completely blocked, plus the atmosphere is loads better. The fans are right on top of things. As someone else said on here, it's not the theatre.
The new Everton stadium is a good example of a new ground with steep stands. It's just better for many reasons.
One thing I will say is if someone is standing in an area meant for seated people, and the people behind them can't see, or in fact anyone can't see, they should sit down. Just common courtesy. Largely that is what happens where I sit/stand.

The issue at Hillsborough were locked gates and fences.

Just watched barelona v gerona at the Olympic stadium, everybody stayed seated during the game,no problem, just our mentality one stands everybody stands ,it's a knock on effect, the seating seems to better organise ,so you can see seated with no problem

I sit Bergara stand and get moaned at for standing when there is a key decision by people behind me. Not every decision but certain ones and all I hear is ‘SIT DOWN’. At the end of the day it’s football - not the theatre. Can’t please everyone unfortunately.

Worse at away games. Why do people stand when they are right at the front, forcing everyone else to stand?. The elderly and small kids can’t see. Need to have an unwritten rule amongst County fans that if you want to stand, you don’t go in the first dozen rows or so, or only get tickets for the upper tiers where there is a split.9B Stockport Edgeley, 9F Heaton Mersey

Good point, we should consider those that are not able to stand.

If you want to stand there are plenty of areas such as LT1 where people stand rather than blocking people's views who actually want to sit, we need to look at a proper safe standing section for those who wish to do so.The beer I had for breakfast wasn't bad so I had one more for dessert.
