I arrived on a web site earlier for a version of the 1% Club from down under. It's an identical format to the UK and the presenter (Jim Jefferies) is pretty funny to be fair.

He certainly gets away with stronger language an inuendo than they do on the UK version. I like it

Well worth a watch if you've never seen it. Lee Mack is a great host on the UK version.

Jim Jefferies is one of the better Aussie comedians. I think he's had to tone it down for that show although I've never watched either one. Lee Mack has always been very sharp.

Most Australian comedians are terrible. And British comedians seem to go off the boil when they live over here for a while. Bill Bailey's panel show is bad. Ben Elton was good about 40 years ago but has been on a downward spiral since then. His last attempt at a new show (about 14 years ago) was canned after the first episode. Hopefully Ross Noble doesn't go the same way.

I watch both shows and the UK version is much better simply due to Lee Mack's gentle warmth.
Jeffries - see below is abrasive and sometimes rude and not funny.
This is true in so many shows-

'The Chase Australia' is not so bad but

Tipping Point, in which publicity advertises the contestants as Masterminds FFS

Mastermind itself where half the contestants belong on Tipping Point

plus recent and very bad rip offs of 8 out of 10 cats and Taskmaster.

Pointless Australia was the worst of all. Condensed to 30 mins they did not give you the other answers to save time and the Osman guy some self important doctor came out with things like

'The canary Islands -where canaries come from'

In balance we have Jeopardy Australia made in UK which is hosted by UK's Stephen Fry and is truly awful- the slowest show ever. Not a patch on Alex Trebek or even Ken Jennings

TBH I find Aussie comedy very simple, but I think that's how they like it here.

There seems to be afew expat comedians out here; I saw Jimeoin live the other week, and he was really good.

I've also seen the lesser known Rory Lowe and he's also pretty funny. However, although Aussie his parents are English - his dad is ex-footballer Kenny Lowe who managed Perth Glory.

I struggle to watch most Aus TV shows, although The Chase Australia isn't too bad.

And in my opinion the Olympic coverage by Channel 9 is awful; I appreciate that there will be bias towards Aussie athletes but they go overboard here, interviewing Aussies when there's live events on.
And the only way you can access most live events is by paying for Stan!

No, you can see most events for free on 9Now app.
We have watched a lot of the Brazilian stuff.

Do you get the Repair Shop over there. One of the best series of recent years.

Not just the quality of the experts, some of the stories and history is brilliant.

It's on Foxtel (our equivalent of SKY TV).

Not sure if it's on free to air though.

Gotta admit, I do enjoy that show.

The lady that is a saddler and leather expert is good along with her brother the clock repairer. The young cobbler is good as well.

I found Aussie humour to be very basic . I thought Hughesy was ok and Chris Lilley did some good stuff. Hamish and Andy were amusing. The UK has many more levels to its comedy but there is nothing on TV now. In the 90’s there was 2 to 3 comedies on tv a day and now there is nothing. People get easily offended unfortunately so comedians are afraid of being cancelled.
