Didn’t know Carnforth were still going. At one time there was a Stockport Saturday league that had 6 divisions, then the Stockport District Sunday league had 5 or 6 divisions. Throw in the Stockport & Cheadle Sunday league ( number of divisions escapes me) Out of all that there are just 28 teams that compete in the Stockport Sunday league. Amateur football around Stockport is on its ar5e.

Carnforth were always a well run club under the guidance of Des Hinks. Good luck to them. My old team Offerton Green are still going strong but only have one team turning out each Sunday during the season.

Not enough folk wanting to play simply because they like playing. Just about all the kids of any standard these days get tied to a professional club from a very young age, then most get rejected as they get older. They just give up as a result, having been labelled as failures.

Yep. My grandson as just been poached by Accrington. They want him to turn up three nights a week. He's 11years old. First two nights is fitness training

his dad doesn't drive.

This is wrong IMVHO. The logical place for initial sports coaching to happen is schools, but you get little/none. My daughter is quite handy for her age, but I don’t really want her to be spending 3 times a week up and down a motorway to play/train footie.

On the subject, would be good if the club could help with the women’s side more. We could easily have a team competing at a higher level. Massive interest from girls in Stocky over the leat few years and some very good talent.

Believe it or not footy has become miles better. Back in my day playing and managing Grove Utd, Adswood ams in the Lancashire and Cheshire and Stockport leagues,you had a couple of divisions above all at the same level ,i.e Manchester Lg ,Manchester Industrial league, Cheshire league ,then Div 4 Football league. Between the L and C nowadays and Div 2 is about 6 levels of football with most players getting paid.

The Old CHESHIRE League was the strongest in the Country in it's heyday.

There seem to be a lot less adults playing these days but loads and loads of kids clubs. Much better with Astro as hardly any games cancelled.

Yep,kids footy is booming from 5/6 up to 18. Then thats it ! Had some fantastic players come through into the senior teams at Georgians over the last few years but lost plenty who follow bliars dream of partying at UNI for a few years,useless degrees, big debts and no football !! As for Sundays, can remember near enough every pub in town having a footy team, but further education,drugs,the rise in standards in Sat football, where our better players are no longer allowed to play Sundays and indeed are in many cases blocked by their sat clubs from doing so ,crap council support, pitches,changing facilities etc,,crap FA support and the smoking ban in pubs has finished Sunday football off.

Played in the SDSFL for 13 years. Sad to hear that it's on the decline.

Football in WA is on the up. I played 3 seasons in the 35s and am on my 8th season in the 45s. The 55s league is still growing so that's the next step.
