I think the way we played yesterday was dictated by the players we had available and Wrexham’s style of playing. DC out-thought the opposition. Contrary to what has been said, there was plenty of fannying about at the back. The idea was to suck Wrexham into a high press and make them vulnerable to the ball over the top so that Tanto and Barry could use their pace against Wrexham’s slow and ponderous defence. This worked a treat and when Wrexham went a goal down they had no option but to press as Horsfall, Pye, Touray and Macca (I include Ben in this too) passed by the ball about between themselves waiting for the opportunity to launch one over the top, Wrexham were poor throughout and never changed their tactics I.e. put the ball into the corners of Stockport’s half and win a throw in or a corner and then bring up their giants to get a head on the ball hoping the second ball would drop at one of their players feet. Yesterday they couldn’t pass a ball 10 yards without giving it away. They had a spell when they looked like getting a goal but were already 4-0 down. But this just made space at the back for Paddy to get a 5th.
