Someone on the other board has posted an interesting story about equity release. In 2010 my parents released £6000 for nothing special. In 2016 they released another £8000. Sadly my father passed away last February, my brother took it upon himself to get mums finances in order. He was stunned to find that to date mum owes £160,000 in interest!! We were both stunned, the company is Aviva, all above board of course. The interest is now £1100 a month. The house it only worth approx 180,000 so in about 2yrs Aviva will own it.
Be very careful out there folks, we had no idea what was happening, dad never mentioned it so it was a complete surprise.
Note: I am not saying this as a no inheritance it was theirs to do what they wanted but it was a shock!
